ABOUT OUR BOOK

|

"Conversations: Find Your Niche!" started when I was in high school and was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. I had no clue. I asked me Dad what I should do and he started me off on a task that over 10 years later would result in this book. He had me go around to family, friends and neighbors and interview them about their jobs. Though I did not enjoy this at the time, I now understand that the insight and lessons that I learned through doing this, helped me make my own career decisions.

My Dad knew that this knowledge and insight had to be shared. We turned the idea into a book that has 150+ interviews with a variety of working professionals. It also contains countless resources and step-by-step exercises that help you to find the right career for you.

What do people say about "Conversations: Find Your Nice!":

"The information contained in this book is extremely helpful, directional and full on common sense. If you want career insight this book is a necessity! This book will help lay a great format for someone trying to decided or find a new career."
-Connie Wilson

"This book is a treasure trove of wisdom about life and work. Van Twelves has done a masterful job of providing a process for evaluating one's possibilities as a working person with his Roadmap. This analysis is appropriate both for the young person just starting out, or for a person in an unsatisfying job, wanting to make a change but not knowing quite how to do it. There is also a lot of excellent advice about how to be a successful interview candidate, and a valued employee - much of it in Section 1, but also in the interviews.

The interviews cover a wide variety of professions - it's fascinating to get insights into what somebody really does all day. The author's advice to "read the last question" in all the interviews is excellent - all 150 people have valuable things to say, gleaned from their experience in very different arenas.

This can be an important, life-altering book for anyone fortunate enough to read it."

"The primary focus of this book might be high school and college students, but it works for people of any age. Where was this book when I was a student? Fortunately, the author recognizes that some of us are already out of school. He says that, "It's okay to be a late bloomer." Zeroing in on my niche has been a meandering and evolutionary process. I could have done it much more quickly with this kind of a guide. The schools did a great job of teaching me how to read and write, but they didn't do so well at teaching me how to choose a career that really matches my values, interests and aptitudes. They didn't caution me about decision traps like picking the same thing that my friends are doing, or picking something because I like a teacher. Those people will eventually move on and I will be left doing something I don't really love. Conversations: Find Your Niche! not only provides a roadmap for making a good decision, it addresses pitfalls that have never even occurred to me.

The sooner you read this book, the better your choice of profession will be. Great book! My thanks to the author and his family for making it available to the rest of us."

"I wish this book were available when I was choosing my career. I will have my 5 children go through this workbook. It is full of interviews discussing work in various careers, a chance to job shadow over 150 professions. Just as important are worksheets to help match a career with skills and interests. The additional references available are very valuable, a great time saver having it in one location. With 84% of people not working in their dream job, I trust this book will help my children find their dream job and have an incredible career."
